This policy explains what personal information Ballet Help Desk collects on BalletHelpDesk.com and Reviews.BalletHelpDesk.com, how we use it, when we share it and what choices you have. Reviews are also governed by our review guidelines and moderation policy.
Information we collect
When you subscribe to our newsletter or contact us, we collect your name and email address.
When you submit a review, we collect your email address for verification. The review form also collects the dancer’s age, your relationship to the dancer, the program or competition, the year attended and your answers to the review questions. We do not collect your name or the dancer’s name on the review form.
Our sites also collect technical information automatically, such as browser type and pages viewed, through cookies and similar technologies. See “Cookies, analytics and advertising” below.
How we use information
We use newsletter and contact information to send the newsletter and respond to inquiries.
We use review information only to operate the reviews database. We use reviewers’ email addresses to verify reviews and to contact reviewers about their reviews, including requests for clarification or revision, notice that a review has been moved to pending, and confirmation of who submitted a review for a dancer under 13. We do not add reviewers to our newsletter list or use their email addresses for marketing.
Information that is published
When a review is published, the review text and the reviewer’s answers to the review questions appear on the site. Email addresses and other contact information are not published. Details in a review may allow a program to identify the reviewer, particularly at smaller programs.
Sharing information
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We do not share reviewers’ identities or contact information with programs, and we do not confirm or deny whether a particular person submitted a review.
We use service providers to operate our sites and newsletter, including website hosting, the reviews database and its verification emails, email marketing and email services. These providers process personal information only to provide services to us.
We disclose personal information when legally required, such as in response to a valid subpoena or court order. When a request involves a reviewer, we will attempt to notify the reviewer before responding, where the law allows.
Children and teens
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Reviews for dancers under 13 must be submitted by a parent or guardian using the “Parent with Dancer Input” option and the parent’s or guardian’s email address. If we find that a dancer under 13 submitted a review, we will contact the email address provided to confirm who submitted it. If the dancer submitted it, we will ask a parent or guardian to resubmit, then delete the original submission and the dancer’s email address.
Dancers 13 and older may submit their own reviews. A reviewer under 18 may request removal of their review by emailing info@ballethelpdesk.com.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
We use analytics tools to understand how visitors use our sites, and we work with an advertising network to display ads. These services may use cookies and similar technologies to collect information about your visits to our sites and other sites over time and to show ads based on that activity. You can opt out of many interest-based ads through the Network Advertising Initiative or the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out tools. You can also set your browser to block cookies, though some site features may not work.
Our sites do not respond to Do Not Track signals.
Data retention
We keep newsletter information until you unsubscribe. We keep a reviewer’s email address for as long as the review is on the site. If a review is removed at the reviewer’s request, we delete the associated email address.
Security
We run regular malware scanning and limit access to personal information to the people who operate Ballet Help Desk. If a data breach affects your personal information, we will notify you by email within 7 business days of discovering it.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any newsletter email. You can request access to, correction of or deletion of your personal information by emailing info@ballethelpdesk.com. Reviewers can revise or remove a review by emailing the same address.
User agreement for reviews
Reviewers are responsible for the content of their reviews. Ballet Help Desk does not necessarily endorse or agree with content submitted by users and is not the author of user reviews.
By submitting a review, you grant Ballet Help Desk a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide license to publish and display the review, reformat it for display and quote it verbatim in our newsletter, on social media and in other Ballet Help Desk materials. Ballet Help Desk does not alter the words of a review. If a review does not meet our guidelines, we ask the reviewer to revise it, and the review remains unpublished or pending until a revision is received. We may decline to publish or remove a review in its entirety, including reviews from unverified email addresses.
Programs do not control which reviews are published or how they are displayed. Programs can report a review that may violate our guidelines by emailing info@ballethelpdesk.com.
Changes to this policy
When we update this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
